The West End

The West End community is one of the oldest residential areas in Vancouver. In the late 1890’s and early 20th century, this was the upscale neighbourhood in Vancouver. Many large family mansions were built then slowly replaced by low rise apartment buildings. Today there is a mix of old mansions, homes and heritage apartments throughout the West End.

A gateway to Stanley Park, the neighbourhood is bordered by the park on one side, as well as English Bay, Granville and Robson Streets. In 1862, the area was heavily forested when three gentlemen, known as the Three Greenhorns, each purchased 73 hectares (180 acres) of land with the purpose of establishing a brickworks.

Recommended you bring a tripod to capture sunset @ 9:17 PM.

Group Field Trip

Date: Sunday July 10, 2022
Time: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Location: Meet in the plaza on the south side of Bute Street and Haro Street. A photo of the plaza’s lovely fountain is above. (refer to map below)
Google Maps: Click for meeting location

We will spend about 40 minutes exploring Bute Street between Haro and Davie Street.

We will then take a 15 minute walk down to Charle’s Secret Garden. This little gem and the area surrounding it is in my opinion home to the West End’s most beautiful flower gardens. We will spend a little less than an hour here. Below is one of the many images that I captured in this area.

We will then head over to English Bay to capture the sunsets.

Bring your tripods and ND filters so that you can capture images like below – weather permitting of course.
